Millet Main Meals
Because millet is very reach in protein it can be used as a main ingridient of
many main meals. In fact millet is so versatile that there is a huge number of
recipes from around the world where millet is cooked together with vast
variety of other ingridients, from meat and fish to fruits and vegetables. In
many cases butter or oil is added to make millet more higher and calories.
Sometimes millet can be cooked using water or milk.
Millet flavor has very distinguished flavor. If you want to enhense it try to
fry grain a little before cooking. To do the opposite, reduce or eliminate
millet flavor, pre-soaking millet in water and draining water before cooking can
help. Please note that by doing this the cooking time will be reduced.
We collected millet recipes from all continents. But, because millet was and
still is very popular in Eastern Europe, most of the main meal resipes came from
Russia and Ukraine.
